It would be difficult, if not impossible, to find a saddlery
company with more knowledge and experience than Barnsby. Based in Walsall, the centre of the English Saddlery industry,
Barnsby have been making top quality saddles and bridles for over 200 years. In
1793 George Cliff the father of the company’s founder, Jabez Cliff, commenced
his apprenticeship in the saddlery trade in Walsall.
The company has been owned and run by his descendants throughout its history,
with the seventh generation of the same family now involved in the business.
Added to this, many of the current staff have been with
Barnsby all their working lives and for some this amounts to more than fifty
years service. The legendary Oliver Morton, Barnsby’s president until his death
in 2005, had spent seventy five years dedicated to the company, and such
incredible experience and expertise is probably unmatched by any other saddlery
in the world.
Barnsby are also unique in that they hold a Royal Warrant as
supplier of Saddlery & Lorinery to H M Queen Elizabeth II. The Company
manufactures saddles for the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery and The
Household Cavalry, the seats of which are still made on the same wooden seat
forming blocks originally used in 1900.
But the company is far from buried in the past. It
appreciates the needs of today’s rider and provide a comprehensive selection of
saddles, bridles and ancillary items which are produced by combining
generations of craftsmanship with input from respected international
competitors in virtually every discipline. Anky Van Grunsven, John &
Michael Whitaker, Ginny Leng, Richard Davison, Di Lampard and Mary King are
just some of the riders who, over the years, have helped Barnsby research and develop
their extensive product range.
The name Barnsby is synonymous with the very best in
saddlery and whether you require a saddle, bridle, or piece of ancillary
equipment you may be assured that every item in the range is of the highest
quality.
